Klik & Play on the Mac requires at least 4 megs of memory to run on the Macintosh. As a default, it is setup to allocate 4megs for when the application first runs. You may find this limiting when Klik & Play reports "Not enough memory" errors as you try to build large graphics objects. To expand Klik & Play's memory allocation do the following:
* Make sure Klik & Play is not running.
* Open the hard disk window from the finder.
* Open the Klik & Play folder
* Click once on the Klik & Play application
* Press Command+I to open the information dialogue
* You will see three numbers under the memory heading
* Change the bottom number (Preferred size) to a value greater than 4000 (6000 for example)
* Close the dialogue and run Klik & Play
2. Sound Problems
Running Klik & Play with sound samples and music can only be achieved if you have Sound Manager (Version 3.1 or above) and Quicktime (version 2.1 or above) installed on your Mac. These extensions are available from Apple, if you have the CD Rom version of Klik & Play you will find them stored on the CD. Check that your Sound Manager and Quicktime versions are older than the ones we supply on the CD. If they are not, keep your current versions.
3. Performance problems
If other applications are running at the same time as Klik & Play you may find that games stop momentarily when they are run. This can also happen if you are connected to a network or using Virtual Memory. The game is being held up for a split second by a separate task. The effect of this is small when you are building your games, but when you want to play a game for fun it is best to avoid this happening. We recommend that you:
* Remove all other applications and run a game with only Finder in memory.
* Disconnect from the network.
* Turn off Virtual Memory.
4. Converting Klik & Play PC gamesmes
If you have created games on the PC version of Klik & Play and want to convert them to the Mac, simply use the menu option "Import PC Klik & Play Game". From the file selector choose your PC game and it will be converted automatically.
Due to the PC and Mac platforms having slight differences you may experience a few changes in your converted game:
Keyboard recognition
The Mac can only detect up to two key presses at one time. So if you have a multiplayer game all controlled on the keyboard you will find some key presses are not picked up by the game. Your only solution here is to split the control between keyboard and mouse.
Font conversion
When Klik & Play Mac converts your games it will analyse all the fonts in the game with all the fonts on the Mac, if it cannot find a match then the font will be converted into Helvetica. After conversion you must check your texts, and style them based on the fonts installed on your Mac.
Quick Backdrop objects
On the PC version of Klik & Play it was possible to create a quick backdrop object which had a pattern effect. This option is not available on the Mac version.
Multi-samples
You will find that this operates much better on the Macintosh than on the PC. The PC takes a long time to mix the samples whereas the Mac can mix and play them back simulateously.
